Wondrous Art Wednesday

On vacation this past weekend, I saw a lot of David Jensen's photography.  From galleries to the local Chamber of Commerce, his work was everywhere.  One can see why.  His photography is absolutely beautiful.  I tried to channel him a little bit when taking pictures in the Imnaha Valley.  Yeah, I can't even come close.  He is a great inspiration and really highlights how beautiful this region is.  All the pictures I've chosen this week are right around where I vacationed.  His work ranges all over the Northwest.

Kurt Weiser is my WAW of the week.  He takes ceramics to a whole new level with the beautiful paintings he does.  I especially love when two pieces of work come together to make one amazing work of art.

Across the hall from my office a massive construction project is underway.  It's so noisy and dusty and I pretty much wish I was anywhere but here.  So today, I'm doing a little visual escape from the chaos.  Portland Photographer Misha Aston is my WAW artist of the week.  None of her work is touched up in photoshop.  I love that!

Cary Weigand is my artist of the week.  I remember seeing her on Oregon Art Beat awhile ago.  Her clay sculptures are so incredible.  I love her blend of Asian and Native American themes.  Her creations definitely stay with you long after you have seen them.  The details are amazing.  You can watch her on Oregon Art Beat tomorrow (July 24th) when her story repeats.

As I get ready to begin a new Encaustic painting class tomorrow, I thought it was only fitting that I picked a artist who does encaustic painting.  NewbyArt has wonderful mixed media paintings.  She even sells a 18 page tutorial on how to do encaustic painting.  Check out her blog too.  She has lots of great paintings there as well.

YogaGoat Pottery is my WAW artist of the week.  I was immediately drawn to this beautiful pottery.  After reading about how she creates, it makes her pieces all that more special.  Andrea states that "Each and every piece you see here is hand-thrown, and hand-carved, by me. I use no molds, templates, or decals. The designs are drawn freehand, so while I may repeat a design, no two will ever be alike."  Amazing!  I couldn't imagine working free hand with no templates or molds.

Why does a squirrel in a suit make me so gosh darn happy?  I love these prints by Berkley Illustration.  They just make me laugh each time I look at them.  Berkley Illustration is a husband and wife duo from Portland.  They were recently featured on Etsy as a success story.  It's a little annoying that they are also good looking.  I always secretly wish that ultra talented artists have a third arm or two noses, but alas they are perfect.  That won't stop me from buying a squirrel print.  :)

Jeannie Paske is my WAW artist of the week.  She is a Portland artist and will be showing her work at The Farm Cafe in July.  I love the feeling I get from her work.  There is a definite mood to her pieces.  I love her Obsolete World; it's amazing!  Be sure to check out her blog too.

My WAW artist of the week is Ananda Khalsa.  This is the kind of art that makes me fall over backwards in awe.  Each piece is hand painted before being set in silver and gold.  Such amazing talent.  From my few hard soldering classes, I can appreciate how difficult just the silver smithing aspect to her work is.  Then to have a tiny painting inside is incredible!  Definitely something to aspire to.  Her web-site is also super cool.  Definitely worth checking out.

My WAW Artist of the week is Karen Preston of A Rabbit Girl.  She does extraordinary colleges on her computer.  It's really amazing.  It makes me want to take a class in photoshop.  You can see more of her work on Etsy.

Spring has finally come to visit us in Portland.  It's been a very wet winter, but now the sun has arrived.  I choose Andrew Daniel as my artist of the week because his work just makes me think of spring.  I love the colors in his vibrant work.  His paintings just make me happy.  You can see more of Andrew's work on his blog.

Marmee Craft is my WAW artist of the week.  I love the ladies she creates with the long necks.  So elegant and also whimsical at the same time.  Her animals are also wonderful.  I just love her style.  Her blog is also worth checking out.

Aline Yamada is my WAW artist of the week.  As you know, I'm very drawn to birds.  I just love these prints.  They are done in pen and ink with watercolor and then enhanced digitally.  The end result is just lovely.

Rigel Sauri is my WAW artist of the week.  I like how he combines abstract elements into his paintings.  I also really his color choices; they are very soothing.   Enjoy!

Labokoff is my WAW artist of the week.  She combines photography with painting to get these incredible images.  I like how the paint makes the images look saturated in color.  Sort of surreal and so beautiful.  She is currently having a sale on Etsy.  For a limited time if you buy 2 prints, you will get a third free.  What a deal!

At the SE Art Walk this past Sunday, my very favorite artist was Amy Stoner.  She does the most incredible encaustic paintings that look so amazing in person.  Now after having done just a tiny bit of encaustic painting, I can really appreciate the time and work that goes into every painting.  I love that there is so much going on in her pieces that you can keep looking at them for a long time.   Her work is very reasonable priced too.  Definitely check out her work.
